Art Aspen 2018 Reaches New Peaks With Record-Breaking Turnout
ASPEN, CO – Every summer, the Aspen Ice Garden houses the Art Aspen fair for three consecutive days, bringing in thousands of attendees to appreciate some of the finest works in modern and contemporary art the world has to offer. 30 of the country’s most esteemed art galleries bring in their finest pieces to showcase during the event, including some works that date back to 1950.
A few of this year’s participating galleries include the MARC STRAUS GALLERY, Heller Gallery, Nancy Hoffman Gallery, Unix Gallery, Timothy Yager Fine Art and ZieherSmith among many others.
This year’s fair was the largest been to date with an attendance increase of over 35% in comparison to previous years, as well as rave reviews from attendees in regards to the overall quality of galleries presenting at this year. Local press outlets such as The Aspen Timesand Aspen Daily News as well as international press outlet, Blouin Artinfo, all published articles on the 2018 Art Aspen show.
On Thursday, July 26th, VIP attendees were able to get an exclusive first look at the participating galleries and experience a private evening with horsd’oeuvres and Entrouage Rose. The opening night provided guests with an extraordinary experience within this dynamic marketplace of art, which included a unique installation at the entrance to the fair by the opening night beneficiary, The Art Base. Finally, on Sunday July 29th, fair visitors were able to join renowned American painter Marc Dennis for an Artist Walk and Talk. Dennis is known for his hyper-realistic paintings that combine various movements throughout the western art historical era with a modern twist, thus creating thought-provoking and fresh perspectives that intersects, history, nature, politics and pop culture.
This year’s fair also featured Art Aspen’s SELECTS program, which included renowned designers Suzanne Lovell and Robyn Scott, and Executive Director of the Art Base, Genna Moe. Bringing unmatched artistic sensibilities and trend-defying tastes, the three tastemakers have a refined perspective of true fine art and interior design. This highly unique style of curating allows for an experience that’s both novel and precise for the Art Aspen patrons.
Of the SELECTS pieces, one of these artists was Gustavo Diaz, who works specifically with paper. Robyn Scott elaborates her opinion on Diaz’s style, “It takes architecture, the delicacy of line work, and sculpture into a new realm.” As another accomplished visual artist, Lynn McCarty‘s “Changing Perception” made a long-lasting impression on Scott as well. I love the softness of transparent color and the way the colors pool over each other. A very atmospheric piece.”
Art Aspen is owned by Atlanta-based Urban Expositions, which produces Art Palm Springs, the Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design (SOFA) Fair in Chicago and FORM Miami.
