After a decade of serving the art community in Delta County, the Creamery Arts Center is undergoing a restructuring. The vision of a community space for education and the arts began in 2006 when a formerly vacant and run down building was extensively remodeled into a world-class art gallery and education center by Linda Tullis. The Creamery, which has since become a centerpiece of downtown Hotchkiss, as well as an attraction to visitors from outside the area, has strengthened art appreciation, provided low cost art classes to the area youth, offered free art programs to Delta County senior citizens, and has provided gallery space for over 50 local artists and authors to sell their work. Unfortunately, the cost of managing and operating the gallery far exceeds the revenues available from classes and sales of art. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we rely heavily on donations and grants. Our revenue from these sources is down 50% from this time last year, leaving us no other option but to temporarily close the gallery.
